#IndiansOnRent: ok kanmani movie with english subtitles 161 The story of a middle-aged couple, Mohan and Latha (Prakash Raj and Saranya Ponvannan) living in an attempted utopia is told through their eyes. They live in a society where all basic amenities, including food and shelter, are provided by the state. But this vision of the future has its own issues - there is no space for individualism and everyone is bound by rules that can’t be broken. The film asks us to question our beliefs, traditions and rituals as it explores what happens when everything just becomes too much to bear. The first half of the film is a little too slow and you think that the director might be making the audience wait for something that is never going to happen. The first half of the film has some good one-liners and situational comedy, but again there’s nothing new or fresh about them. You’d expect a movie with such a big star cast, some great technicians and an interesting director to start off with a bang. But ok Kanmani doesn't start off on an interesting note. The first half of the film isn't engaging enough to make you want to sit through the rest of it. The second half which has Prakash Raj in lead role is decent. The story though predictable begins to unravel nicely, but what works in its favour is Saranya Ponvannan’s performance. Her demeanor and expressions are so natural that you can easily fall for her act without even realizing it. She’s the star of the film and also its soul, so she should be given more credit than what she is given here. Prakash Raj’s performance is good, but he hardly gets any scope to showcase his comic chops. His expressions are just about bearable here. The movie is not bad, but it’s not good either. The music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Lyrics were written by Yuga Bharathy, Kabilan, Madhan Karky and Arivumathi. "IndiaGlitz" wrote "The lack of interest is because this same script has been played before in Tamil Cinema and it works only if you employ two very important ingredients - A star cast that the masses will relate to and a good music score that steps out of the rut. "Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada" had that, Ok Kanmani doesn't." "Behindwoods" wrote "Ok Kanmani brings out the best in all the artists involved. Prakash Raj, Saranya Ponvannan, Thambi Ramaiah, Rajeev Pillai and debutante Oviya give apt performances. The narration is gripping with an interesting yet fitting choice of background score. The cinematography is top notch with excellent lighting. Santhosh Narayanan’s BGM blends well into the story and creates the right impact. cfa1e77820
